Here at The Scottish Shutter Company, we’ve become known for our expertise in automated and voice-activated window blinds.
So, it seems like a natural progression that we introduce a new range of motorised window shutters.
This new range, called PowerMotion is available as an option on all of our S-Craft silent-tilt shutter products (except our waterproof Java collection and our Portchester Security Shutters).
PowerMotion is even available for French Door shutters, special shapes, gable ends and bay windows.
Incidentally, we use our own in-house computer-aided design facility to design your shutters, so no window shape is too awkward for us. That’s why we’re known as the “shaped shutter experts”, and that’s what helped us win The Best Plantation Shutter Installation in the UK Award this year.
PowerMotion means that you’ll be able to control the angle of the louvres on your shutters from fully-closed to fully open (and anywhere in between) at the touch of a button. You have eight pre-programmed louvre positions, and there’s even a button to allow you to set your louvres at the optimum position for the best view.
Even if you live in a very large house or have unusually thick walls, PowerMotion can cope.
One of the great design features of PowerMotion is a hidden motor which will immediately disengage if something prevents the louvres from moving.
This built-in protection means it’s ideal if you have young children at home with inquisitive fingers which may get in the way when the louvres are closing at bedtime.
This integrated jam protection system provides the ultimate in child safety.
Remembering, of course, that window shutters are already the most child-safe window covering available. There are no dangerous cords or loops on window shutters. Oh, and if you need to make a bedroom really dark, we have a brilliant shutter solution for that too.
PowerMotion is ideal for shutters which are difficult to reach, such as tall gable windows and for larger installations where hand-tilting of the louvres can be time-consuming.
PowerMotion helps you get the most from your shutters, with no extra effort.
The right light levels in your rooms are now just a button press away.
For the technically minded, your PowerMotion shutters come with lithium-ion batteries with an integrated solar strip to extend battery life. The batteries are rechargeable via a mini /USB.
There’s also a manual override if you want or need to operate the louvres manually.
You can see PowerMotion shutters in operation at our Edinburgh showroom, or you can arrange a home visit, and we’ll bring PowerMotion to you. Give us a call on 0800 086 2989.
Best Plantation Shutter Installation
”And the Award goes to……The Scottish Shutter Company”
At the Belfry Hotel & Resort, Sutton Coldfield on Saturday 4th May, in front of a large audience of the movers and shakers in the window blind and shutter industry, we won the British Blind & Shutter Association (BBSA) award for:
Best Plantation Shutter Installation in the UK 2019
The installation we submitted was the one featured in an earlier blog on our site – Neil and Dorothy Furey’s new house in Boddam.
We were absolutely delighted to pick up this award amongst some very stiff competition. All of the finalists in our category were worthy of their nomination.
It’s an outstanding award for us as the judging was carried out by our peers in the industry – it’s like a players’ player-of-the-year award, and we are so delighted to get this recognition from our industry.
It was a triple whammy for The Scottish Shutter Company as two of our strategic suppliers also picked up awards. Luxaflex® our window blind supplier picked up the Best New Product Award with their window blind motorisation system PowerView®.
We wholeheartedly agree with this award as Luxaflex® PowerView® is one of our key products and David D’Ambrosio, our Technical Director has become one of the leading experts in the UK in the installation and use of PowerView®
Our shutter supplier – S-Craft also picked up the award for Best In-House Training Programme, which shows that we are being trained by the best in our industry.

Where are your shutters made?
That’s a question we get asked a lot here at The Scottish Shutter Company. And the answer? – By a company called Nien Made in China. NM supplies all the leading shutter retailers - John Lewis, Clement Browne, Hillarys, Edinburgh Shutter Company, Acorn Shutters, City Blinds & Shutters, SCraft and of course, us here at The Scottish Shutter Company. Nien Made is also the largest exporter of interior window shutters to Europe and to North America under the brand Norman International. The difference at the Scottish Shutter Company is that we design all our shutters here in Broughty Ferry for subsequent manufacture by Nien Made. Over the last thirty years that we’ve been supplying and fitting shutters in Scotland we’ve tried and tested lots of different manufacturers in both the UK, Ireland and the rest of the world. Nien Made’s attention to detail, massive investment in sophisticated production equipment and a total understanding of timber handling and knowledge of the humidity and atmospheric conditions here in the UK (so that your shutters don’t warp and twist when they are installed in your warm rooms), far outstrips all the other sources. They have been our strategic shutter partner for the last fifteen years. The reason we design here on our own in-house computer-aided-design system is so that we have full control of the process. Most companies just send your measurements to the factory. We send accurate drawings with the message – “do not deviate”. We don’t want the factory making design and installation decisions. That’s our job. That’s why we take so many measurements and then create very detailed drawings for the factory to work from to create your shutters.
